Carl Goldberg “Sailplane”
A 2007 replica updated with a 3 channel and glow engine. Video starts with a 1940 advertisement from Comet and descriptive specs for the 2007 version built and flown by Jim Kummerow, an IMAC and Giant Scale flyer. AWESOME and BEAUTIFUL!!!

One wheel undercarriage?Amazing!
I just encountered this model and alrwady like it.
I wonder if there are any ARF’s of Carl Goldberg’s models?

Jim, states that one wheels were/are common for these early freeflight models.
Unfortunately no ARF are available, too bad I would sure like to get one. It took Jim about 8 months to build his, but he’s a refectionist. He got the laser cut kit from Bob Holman’s company.
Made a big difference in assembly, parts are very precision. It’s a beautiful flyer!!!!

Don

What a majestic flying airplane!
I have two of these, both still kits in the box, one is replikit, the other is an ORIGINAL Carl Goldberg still NIB with a personally hand typed and signed letter from Carl Goldberg on his company stationary to the original owner of the kit who never built it. The plans are original, all the wood is original, as is the box with a price tag of $3.95 on it!
It also included a set of original “sailplane ” decals!

I have an ALL ORIGINAL 1940 Sailplane kit, original plans, original box( with $3.95 price tag) and an original set of sailplane decals, and a hand typed letter and hand signed by Carl Goldberg to the original owner of the kit on Carl’s Top Flite company stationary.
I posted pictures of them on RC Groups, look under “Carl Goldberg Sailplane”
Let’s just say I got SUPER LUCKY on Ebay one day when I found this “treasure” that no one had bid on, only with 5 minutes left in the auction!

I DID like it! What a strangely beautiful plane! Looks like its been taken out of a 20s sci fi movie! The wing is just amazing.
Sadly, the plans are hard to come by in Germany. I would love to try that wing with a simple box fuselage as a glider.

That’s a really cool style. this seem likely to be the inspiration behind other sailplane designs. Even some new ones still use that type of raised wing mounting.
